Artificial Intelligence

A certain designer - who's name I will not name - recently at a certain conference began talking about the social responsibilites of design. "Design should take risks!" he said, "and it should be experimental!" Nothing wrong with that, but how about this bit: "The enemy of a homogenous society is difference, and we are not encouraged enough to be different". Has this guy slept through postmodernism or what?

But my favourite moment was when he proclaimed a "new culture of provocation" while showing slides of his work for gigantic corporations - this was somewhat unintentional, because he had completely gone off the script while the slide show was still running - all of which resulted in the sentence "[maybe one day] we can again use the word "love" for our fellow man" being paired with images of advertisement for a internet and tv conglomerate. Hooray for technology which so cunningly and subversively juxtaposes image and text - true artificial intelligence, indeed.
